Following are variables to consider in planning
the course.
• Course length (12-14 sessions). We recommend that the minimum
course length be seven sessions, with the remaining sessions following
at a later time. The course is best done as a whole, however –
and can be repeated with new members.
• Session length (60 minutes, 90 minutes, or beyond).
• Setting (classroom, home, community rooms, etc.).
• Meeting time (evening, daytime, weekend) and frequency (once
a week, every day or night, retreat).
Lesson Timing Options
Lessons are designed to be completed in one of three time schedules:
• Option A – Sessions of 60 minutes. This option is
more the drive-thru window approach in which the content is covered
with minimal interaction with participants.
• Option B – Sessions of 90 minutes. This option allows
more time for content presentation in an interactive format along
with dialog among participants.
• Option C – Sessions of more than 90 minutes as needed.
This option offers the most flexible approach to meeting the needs
(expected and unexpected) of the participants.
It is recommended that you allow the group to be “open”
to any/all participants for the first two sessions. Beginning with
Session Three, it is recommended that the group be “closed”
in order for relationships to grow deeper and vulnerability to increase.
SPECIAL NOTE: Dynamic Living Ministries has an ongoing interest
in improving this product. Sending us a copy of the roster will
enable us to keep track of how many men are involved in the program
nationwide. We will also send each participant a note indicating
we are praying for him in this process. Sending us the roster will
not place participants on a mailing list, nor will it be used for
any telemarketing effort or sold to others!
Overview of the Session Instructional Plan
Following is a description of each of the instructional plan and
Leader’s Guide elements.
Session Keys (Leader’s Guide)
Take the time to read the Key Idea, Key Outcomes, and Key Scripture
Passage provided at the beginning of each session of the Leader’s
Guide. These resources provide a focused overview of the purpose
of the session.
Introductory Matters (Leader’s Guide)
Begin promptly with a short welcome lasting no more than 5 minutes.
Many groups find it helpful to precede each session with a time
of 15-20 minutes of worship, but this time is in addition to the
session time.
Background
Each participant is encouraged to read the background material
prior to arriving at the meeting.
Getting Started
Each session, with the exception of Optional Session B has a choice
of two relationship-building, experience-sharing activities that
help group members to begin thinking of the session’s main
truth.
Getting Informed
Each session contains several major points in this section, enabling
participants to explore the relevant issues and their implications
for personal application. Instructions are given to help you guide
members in helpful and enjoyable learning experiences. Those instructions
are enclosed within boxes. The Leader’s Guide also has possible
answers to the discussion questions and other information not included
in the Participant Guide. These leader resources are marked by a
diamond?.
Getting Personal
Each session generally concludes with two choices that help in
summarizing session highlights with suggestions for implementing
the ideas in practical ways. Beginning with Session Three, these
activities will be done in the M2 Groups.
At the end of the Getting Personal time, the Leader’s Guide
will include ideas for ending the session. See “Closing comments
and prayer” for these ideas.
Getting Practical (outside of the session)
Each session includes actions to take outside the classroom and
apply in daily life. Often participants will be asked to share with
their M2 groups their progress in living out the principles they
are learning.
